Memory Care

We value the importance of finding the right balance between familiarity, structure and independence when selecting a new home for a loved one with memory loss. That’s why residents at The Heritage at Lake Forest find comfort immediately from our two unique, safe and secured comfortable settings. Our new residents feel safe and happy in their new home, enjoying fun activities with their new family of friends. We believe that a structured and supportive environment is a very important part of caring for those with memory loss, while protecting their privacy and dignity. Our environment is calming and our secured and beautiful courtyard in each community was specifically designed for loved ones with memory loss.

Safe Haven and Safe Harbour are designed not only to meet the needs of your loved one, but to exceed your expectations through our fine customized care. For example, shadow boxes for each room provide visual cues, personalized with photographs, not only to assist in identification, but distinguishing each room as the resident’s home. The personal comfort and safety of each resident is of paramount importance within our secure layout. Meaningful activities directed by staff trained in Alzheimer care giving, compliments our customized care. Each studio apartment in this area will feature large, tiled walk-in showers equipped with safety features. Each of the individual communities will enjoy private dining and activity rooms.

Our professional and caring staff provides individual attention and personal security as well as the most advanced therapeutic care available for memory enhancement and is dedicated to making every day a special one for each resident. We focus on improving the quality of life based upon their personal interests, preferences, persisting strengths and skills. Each and every member of our memory care community is trained in memory impairment and Alzheimer’s care and continues ongoing training and education. We offer group activities promoting socialization, fitness walks, armchair aerobics, music appreciation, crafts and hobbies, pet visitations and much more. A licensed nurse or certified nursing assistants are on sitearound the clock and our monthly support group help the families get through such difficult periods.

Our residents are cared for under the supervision of our Director of Nursing, Judy Tivnan, an RN with a gerontology certificate and over 20 years experience. Judy and Sylvia Lormann, our Director of Activities with another 20 years of experience in healthcare, both plan and develop community seminars on a variety of senior care issues. They speak to professionals and community groups on topics such as care planning for family support groups, community resources, helping the caregiver and each help to facilitate a monthly Alzheimer’s support group as volunteers for the Alzheimer’s association and the Alzheimer’s resources.
